Our birthday program is available through participating organizations that serve children experiencing foster care, abuse, family crisis, displacement or other difficult circumstances. Birthday requests should be submitted by an authorized point of contact at the partner organization.

Please add birthdays to your shared tracker at least two weeks before the celebration is needed. The more notice we have, the better opportunity we have to coordinate volunteers, bakers and donated supplies.

We keep it simple. We ask for the child's first name, age they are celebrating, favorite theme or interests, cake or treat preferences, allergies or dietary considerations, the date the celebration is needed and your organization's point of contact. We do not need information that isn't necessary to prepare and coordinate the birthday.

Our goal is to create a birthday experience that feels personal to the child. Depending on availability, celebrations may include a personalized birthday cake or baked treat, a birthday coloring page featuring Mustard, Mia & the Mustard Seed, a mustard seed pocket coin and other birthday extras.

We do our best to provide a personalized birthday cake whenever possible. Baker availability, donations, dietary needs and other circumstances may sometimes mean we provide cupcakes, cookies, brownies or another baked birthday treat instead. If we anticipate a change or are unable to fulfill a request, we'll communicate with your organization's point of contact in advance.

We want to celebrate as many children as we responsibly can, but fulfillment depends on available volunteers, bakers, donations and resources. Providing at least two weeks' notice gives us the best opportunity to fulfill a request. If we cannot accommodate a birthday, we will let your point of contact know as soon as possible.

Once your organization becomes a partner, we'll create a simple shared birthday tracker for your team. Add upcoming birthdays and the requested information to the tracker, and our team will take it from there.

Only a Mustard Seed coordinates delivery to the participating organization. Your organization's team then gets the celebration to the child. We do not need the child's home or placement address.

No. Your organization remains the connection between Only a Mustard Seed and the child. We do not need direct access to the child to provide their birthday celebration.

Absolutely not. Children are never expected to pose for photographs, write thank-you notes, provide testimonials or participate in our social media. Their birthday is for them to enjoy.

We may photograph a completed birthday cake or package before it leaves us as part of our On Its Way series. Each completed celebration also adds a leaf to Mustard's birthday tree and increases our Birthdays Celebrated count. This allows us to show donors and volunteers the impact of their support without asking the child to participate.

Please include all known allergies and dietary considerations in the shared tracker. We will review those needs before accepting or preparing the request and communicate with your point of contact about what we can safely provide.
